Vineyards Strekov

Strekov has always been a typical vineyard region. Rizling vlašský (Welschriesling) still holds the title of the most popular variety, a quality of which you can always rely on.

A nearby Paris Marsh, the largest cane marsh in Slovakia, is greatly responsible for the special reputation the Strekov vineyards have. This unique nature reserve and its distinct microclimate with significant temperature differences between day and night, makes the grapes ripe with unmistakably colorful aroma and excellent quality. The cold air flows down the hills from the vineyards and settles around the Paris Marsh, keeping the soil sufficiently warm. Typical for this region is a very fertile chernozem soil type developing from loess. The soil contains a fine humus horizon with high pH, enriching the wines with acids, which results in the typical juiciness.

Muškát moravský

Year of planting: 2005 a 2007
Number of plants: 300/300
Spacing: 2,1x0,8 m
Rootstock: Kober 5BB

The top part of the clone selected out of the Strekov vineyards contains more acids and has a citrus spectrum of flavour precursors.
The bottom part of the clone consists of a planting material from Šenkvice. It contains fewer acids, nutmeg spectrum of flavour precursors, and is better at storing sugar.

Muškát moravský

Year of planting: 2013

Spacing: 2,2x0,8 m
Rootstock: Kober 5BB

Slovenian clone providing more harvest while maintaining excellent quality. It contains an above-average number of aroma and flavour precursors. The taste of the grapes is striking, nutmeg-citrus.

Rizling vlašský

Year of planting: 2012

Spacing: 2,2x1,0 m
Rootstock: Kober 5BB

The finest soil preparation, correctly determined clone and rootstock, laser-directed planting machine – those are the reasons behind the quality of Rizling vlašský (Welschriesling). We were the first to use a modern support system with special Gripple clasps. The grapes are exceptionally complex in taste, with spicy acids and a great number of aroma and flavour precursors.

Dunaj

Year of planting: 2016
Number of plants: 1 230
Spacing: 2,2x0,8 m
Rootstock: SO4

Dunaj is the most typical Slovakian red grape must variety and also the very first variety for producing red wine planted in our vineyards. Individual clones were chosen particularly for the microclimate conditions of Strekov, which offer higher day and, especially, night temperatures. Chernozem in this region is highly nutritious.

These varieties have high number of flavours and aromatic substances. In 2007, we planted a small vineyard to test various kinds of vines and their ability to grow in the individual Strekov locations.

Sir George Fistonich is the founder of the iconic Villa Maria winery, which, in 2001, was the first to introduce the “Cork-Free Zone” - meaning that all their wines use screwcap. The reason for this was simple - to get rid of the fears concerning the insufficient quality of cork stoppers. As he says, 8 “corked bottles” out of 100 was too big a number to just overlook.

New design for the Berta brand

The story of our new logo and labels for our wines began about a year ago. We chose Komplot Advertising based on the recommendations of our mutual friend Peter Kučerka. Since the very first meeting with the Komplot Advertising team we were sure that they are the right people for the job. We believed they will come up with something extraordinary and timeless.
And we were right. :-)
