Family Winery Story

„History of the family winemaking tradition goes back four generations of Berta.

Grandfather of our father settled in Strekov after a forced leave from Hungary, even though his initial destination had been Modra. The train, however, didn't stop in Modra, so he, as a skilled winemaker, took administration of Strekov vineyards where he established the first family vineyard. He taught our father the secrets of winemaking from an early age. Years later, my father again shared this knowledge with my brother Lukáš and me. The first vineyard, in which both of us have helped out since childhood, had been planted in 1973.“

2017
  • After a decade, we have increased our initial production of 1 000 bottles per year to 35 000
  • We completed a two-month practice in one of the world's best wineries – Saint Clair in Marlborough, New Zealand

2016
  • We are planting Dunaj/Danube, the first grape variety for producing red wine
  • Sir George Fistonich himself, a pioneer of New Zealand wine industry, congratulated us for Slovakia's Cork-free zone
2015
  • We are founding the first official Cork-free zone in Slovakia
  • Sauvignon blanc and Muškát moravský (Moravian Muscat) of this year are awarded gold medals in the prestigious French competition Vinalies Internationales Paris
2014
  • We have been awarded a silver medal by the Fingers Lakes International Wine Competition in New York for Muškát moravský (Moravian Muscat) Single Vineyard 2013
  • Sauvignon blanc 2013 is among the top 100 wines in Slovakia


2012
  • We are planting Rizling vlašský (Welschriesling) and developing a new, modern production space
  • We are focusing on growing grape varieties that are typical only for our region
2007
  • We are officially launching the Berta Winery
2006
  • We took part in a year-long practice in the renowned Sand Castle Winery in Pennsylvania, USA
2005
  • We have planted our first vineyard Muškát moravský(Moravian Muscat)

An icon of New Zealand wine industry has recognized the Berta Winery

Sir George Fistonich is the founder of the iconic Villa Maria winery, which, in 2001, was the first to introduce the “Cork-Free Zone” - meaning that all their wines use screwcap. The reason for this was simple - to get rid of the fears concerning the insufficient quality of cork stoppers. As he says, 8 “corked bottles” out of 100 was too big a number to just overlook.

New design for the Berta brand

The story of our new logo and labels for our wines began about a year ago. We chose Komplot Advertising based on the recommendations of our mutual friend Peter Kučerka. Since the very first meeting with the Komplot Advertising team we were sure that they are the right people for the job. We believed they will come up with something extraordinary and timeless.
And we were right. :-)
